# Translations

| **Plan required:** Translations is included in the current plans. It isn't part of the old Pro plan. If the Translations page shows an upgrade option, switch plans in the app under Billing → Plan. [How to change your plan](https://support.custompricecalculator.com/en/article/how-to-upgrade-your-plan-1ccfdi1/)

Translations shows every phrase in your calculators in the language your shopper is browsing in: labels, choices, placeholders, tooltips, error messages, and the line-item details in the cart, at checkout and on the order. Prices and formulas are not touched.

## Before you start

- Your store needs more than one language published in Shopify (**Settings → Languages**). The languages you can translate into come from that list.
- Only live calculators are listed. Drafts and archived calculators have no phrases to translate.

## How to set it up

1. In the app, open **Translations** in the left menu. Shopify now asks for **Markets** and **Languages** access when you install the app (or the next time you open it after this change). Approve with **Update** on Shopify's screen. There is no longer an **Allow access** button inside the app. If Translations still cannot see your languages, reopen the app and complete Shopify's permission page, or message us.
2. Pick the language in **Translating into**. The table lists every phrase your shoppers can see: the ones from your calculators, and the few the app itself shows in the cart and in error messages.
3. Click **Translate the remaining** to fill every empty row in one click. To change a translation, type over it. **Translate** on a single row redoes just that phrase.

4. Click **Save** in the bar at the top of the page.
5. Switch **Translations are on for your storefront** on, and save again. Until the switch is on, every shopper sees your default language and your translations stay saved.

A shopper browsing in that language now sees the calculator, the cart line and the checkout in it. Changes are live right away. For another language, pick it in **Translating into** and repeat.

## Good to know

- **Blank rows never break anything.** A phrase with no translation shows in your default language.
- **New phrases show up by themselves** as **Needs translation** when you add elements or choices. Click **Translate the remaining** again.
- **Renaming a phrase in the builder creates a new row**, because translations are matched to the exact text.
- **Right-to-left languages** such as Hebrew or Arabic flip the calculator layout automatically.
- **Your orders show the shopper's language.** An order placed in French lists "Largeur (cm): 40" rather than "Width (cm): 40".

## Troubleshooting

- **Shoppers still see the default language:** check the switch is on and saved, that the language is published in Shopify, and that the shopper is actually browsing in it (for example through your theme's language selector). The **Needs translation** filter shows what is still empty.
- **"We couldn't reach the translation service":** nothing was changed. Try again in a moment, or type the translation yourself.
- **A phrase is missing from the table:** only live calculators are scanned, and phrases made only of numbers are left out on purpose.
- **The page shows an upgrade option instead of the switch:** Translations isn't part of the old Pro plan. [Switch to a current plan](https://support.custompricecalculator.com/en/article/how-to-upgrade-your-plan-1ccfdi1/) in the app under Billing → Plan.
