Customer currency display

Plan required: Customer currency display is included in the current plans. It isn't part of the old Pro plan. It also needs the current checkout flow (Cart Transform). To upgrade, go to Billing → Plan in the app (How to change your plan). To switch checkout flows, message us; it's free.

If you sell in more than one currency through Shopify Markets, the rest of your product page already shows prices in the shopper's currency. The calculator's price did not: it showed your store's base currency, so a shopper browsing in euros saw the page in € and the calculator in $.

Customer currency display fixes that. It converts the calculator's price into the currency the shopper is browsing in, using the same Shopify Markets rate your checkout uses. No extra currency app is needed.

What it changes, and what it does not

  • Changes: the price the calculator shows while the shopper configures the product. It is converted and written the way that currency is written (symbol, separators, decimals).
  • Does not change: what the shopper is charged. Checkout already converts the calculated price at your Markets rate, with or without this feature. The feature makes what shoppers see match what they pay.
  • Does not change: your formulas. They keep working in your base currency. The conversion happens only on the shopper's screen.

Before you start

  • Your store needs a plan that includes Customer currency display. The card in Settings tells you where your plan stands.
  • Your store needs to be on the app's current checkout flow (Cart Transform). If you are still on the original variant-based flow, the card says so and offers a button to message us. Switching is free and we handle it. What changes when you switch
  • Shopify Markets needs at least one market that sells in a different currency (Settings → Markets in your Shopify admin, then that market's Currency setting). If every market sells in your base currency, there is nothing to convert.

How to set it up

  1. Make sure Shopify Markets has at least one market that sells in another currency (Shopify admin → Settings → Markets → the market's Currency).
  2. In the app, open Settings and scroll to Customer currency display. If the card shows an upgrade option, change your plan first. If it shows a checkout-flow notice, message us to switch to Cart Transform (free).

  1. Switch on Show prices in customer's local currency and save. Markets access is requested with the other required scopes at install (or on the next app open), not from an in-app card. If the toggle is blocked because Markets access is missing, reopen the app and approve Shopify's permission page, then try again.
  2. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.

  1. Check it: open a product page in another currency and confirm the calculator price is converted.

The Preview next to the switch is an illustration only. It shows how a price is written in a few currencies so you know what to expect. The real conversion on your storefront uses your live Shopify rates.

That's it. A shopper browsing in another currency now sees the calculator price in it, and the price updates as they change their choices.

A shopper in France, browsing in French and euros: the same cushion calculator, with the price converted to €.

Good to know

  • Base-currency shoppers see no change. Your price prefix and suffix (for example "$" and "USD") show exactly as before. In a converted currency the price is written in that currency's own format instead, so the prefix and suffix are left out.
  • Only the main price is converted in this version. Amounts inside a Calculation Display element, and the amounts on the cart page, still show in your base currency.
  • Rates come from Shopify. The calculator uses the rate your theme reports for the shopper's currency, so it stays in step with the rest of the page and with checkout.
  • Turning it off puts every shopper back on your base currency right away.

Troubleshooting

The calculator still shows my base currency

  1. Check the switch is on and you clicked Save.
  2. Check the shopper is actually browsing in another currency. The rest of the page should show that currency too. If it does not, the market sells in your base currency: check Settings → Markets in Shopify.
  3. Check your theme uses Shopify's own currency selector. Third-party currency switcher apps that rewrite prices on the page are not used by the calculator.
  4. If your store is on the original checkout flow, the card shows a notice instead of an active switch. Message us to switch.

The converted price differs from what Shopify charges by a cent or two

Shopify applies its own rounding rules at checkout. The calculator shows the converted amount to two decimals, so a tiny difference is normal.

The card shows an upgrade option instead of the switch

Customer currency display isn't part of the old Pro plan. Switch to a current plan in the app under Billing → Plan.
